about

Captain’s Log - approximate time coordinates - 11072019-1211 - ref - Sound Flight 05272018 -

An “album” is a collection of tunes that do not necessarily have much in common with one another. They are painstakingly written and performed, recorded, produced, performed a bunch more (yay!) and, sometimes they get pressed into a vinyl record, or plastic CD, or reel of magnetic tape. They, generally, come from the minds/hands/instruments of a few people (yay band!), and from the same “vibe,” but, individually, the songs are very different in their keys, tempos, and melodies. It is what makes them distinct, and, in their proper “album order” they are united by the intros and outros, and, when that order is clicked over to “shuffle,” it can bend one’s listening experience, making it new yet familiar.

Archive Transmission #2 - as an “album”- is none of those things. It is an experiment in non-linear time. Here, the listener finds several “Sound Flights” selected from the performance at 3 Kings Tavern in Denver, the twenty seventh of May, two thousand and eighteen. Each Sound Flight is cut into smaller movements and separated (yet joined) by “time blips.” The listener is encouraged to click over to “shuffle” mode upon linear completion of the audio journey. Here, the sounds may seem simultaneously new and familiar, but, only as familiar as driving your car on the Moon. It’s still your car, but… well… The Moon, though...
